Friday night – 11/11

vs. Elim
The Grizzlies played the Eagles on Friday night in a close match that went all 5 games. The Grizzlies walked away with our first match win of the season!!  All games were close ones, as seen in scores.

Games 2 and 4 required extra points  to determine winner (must win by two). The Grizzlies bounced back after dropping the initial game to win next two. Alberta Bogeyaktuk and Beverly Tom led Grizzlies in serving for game 2 (6 pts apiece) while Trace Larsen added another 5 to help team to victory.

We couldn't have won game 3 without freshmen Alberta Bogeyaktuk and Winifred Pete who stepped up in a big way at the service line. Alberta served up 5 straight points when we were down 8-13 to regain the lead. Later in the game, Winifred also served 5 in a row to tie the game up at 23-23. Grizzlies answered the Eagles 24th point with 3 in a row to clench game 3.

Trace Larsen and Beverly Tom served 7 and 6 points respectively in a nail-biting game 4.

In game 5, freshman Louis Dan helped bring team back from a 2 point deficit by serving 5 in a row to seal the deal. All eight players came together and played some awesome volleyball to win this match. Freshman Imagin Tom made her setting debut in the Elim match, putting up multiple assists. Deynese Pete (freshman) was also a key reserve player, coming off the bench to serve in all 5 games.

Our young team (5 freshman on an 8 player roster) was led by captains Trace Larsen and Serena Martin who played every minute of every game.  Game/set scores: (24-26, 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13)

vs. White Mountain
The Grizzlies also played the White Mountain Wolves Friday night, on the Wolves Senior Night, in three hard fought games.

Our team did a great job pulling together after two tough games. They played WMO point-for-point in the third game, leading by three points early on before finally conceding defeat. Game/set scores: (11-25, 12-25, 21-26)

Saturday – 11/12
