Tukurngailnguq School started off the school year on a positive and festive foot with a back-to-school community coffee hour and celebration. Parents and elders gathered in the multi-purpose room to visit and enjoy coffee while students picked up their class schedules and ate breakfast.
After the social hour, everyone gathered in the gymnasium to recite Pledge of Allegiance in Yup’ik and English, a highlight of the day’s Celebration.
Principal John Juvinall welcomed students, staff, and the community to a new school year and introduced our new and returning staff, including new Assistant Principal, Betty Hall, who moved her family to Stebbins from eastern Oregon to join the school’s Administration.
“We have a terrific team this year,” said Mr. Juvinall in an interview after the celebration. “Our best and brightest teachers and para educators have returned from last year, and our new folks come to us with many years experience teaching in rural settings. I know we’re headed for a great year with the kids, and I’m looking forward to deepening my relationships with the Stebbins community.”
