Congratulations to three Grizzlies for placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at district spelling bee competition!
The Bering Strait School District Yup’ik Spelling Bee took place Tuesday, March 21 this year at Tukurngailnguq School. The competition was officiated by Rebecca Atchak, a longtime Bilingual/Bicultural parapro who is currently finishing up her teaching degree through BSSD’s Paraprofessional Sabbatical Program. We are grateful she was able to take time to bring her experience to this year’s Bee.
Six students competed for three slots to go to the State spelling bee in April. It was a tight competition, with an old-fashioned tiebreaker determining the winner!
- 1st Place - Natalie Mike, 8th grade
- 2nd Place - Brennan Paje, 6th grade
- 3rd Place - Nevaeh Tom, 8th grade
